Another fabulous meeting in East Coast Toastmasters with 3 speeches, 3 evaluations & a rattling good Topics session.
Milda was our Poetmaster and as a new member did really well in presenting her poem.
Topics was a curious admixture of Rabbit-out-of-the-Hat Impromptu speaking together with a few self incriminating responses to leading questions.
Speeches in the second half dealt with Body Language , Longevity and Insomnia ; expertly delivered by advanced toastmasters.
Tips from the evaluators included :-
where speeches are given to assist newer members to improve their speaking abilities and skills, a static flip chart with key pointers or a handout at the end will prove useful.
Speak Up and Slow Down. Editing of material to be presented is more useful than racing through the presentation when trying to keep within the time limits
Small writing on the flip chart can be difficult to read. Smile and your audience will back at you.
The General Evaluator raced through his presentation without editing any of his material, heaping praise on the evaluators while agreeing largely with the suggestions for improvement which they offered. He singled out 2 of the new members for special praise for their participation levels and contributions to the meeting and reminded us all that the Club AGM will take place at the next meeting.
